Heavyweight contenders Joseph Parker and Joe Joyce have reportedly ironed out the preliminary details for a showdown in July. Boxing promoter Frank Warren shared the news in London last weekend in the lead up to Tyson Fury’s most recent defense of his WBC Heavyweight Championship.
“These two giants are going to fight each other to see who’s the best giant,” Warren said, according to ESPN.
“This could be a great fight between the two of them; we’re looking to put it on at some point in July.”
Joe Joyce enters the fight with a spotless record of 13-0 with 12 wins coming by way of knockout. Meanwhile, Parker enters the bout with a nearly unblemished record of 30 wins and two losses. The winner of the fight could be in position for not one, but two title fights. Parker and Joyce are currently the top two contenders for Oleksandr Usyk’s WBO Heavyweight Championship. Also, the winner of the July showdown would be in line to fight Deontay Wilder if Tyson Fury were to retire and vacate the WBC Heavyweight title. With so much on the line, both Parker and Joyce are ready to sign the contract and get in the ring.
“We’re so close — we just need Frank to sign the contract and then we’re on. I’d love to fight Joe Joyce,” Parker said last weekend, according to ESPN.
“It’s going to be made now, it’s almost there. I’m really excited to get the party started and to get in there,” Joyce added.
