As a member of the McNeese State Cowboys, Joe Dumars recorded 22.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. He also recorded a total of 2,607 points while shooting 46.2 percent from the field. Dumars played his college career before the three-point line was introduced at that level of basketball. As an NBA player, he was highly decorated including winning two NBA Championships in his career.
Athletic Director Heath Schroyer said the following about the decision: “Joe is by far the most accomplished basketball player to ever come out of McNeese. However, Joe is more than just an athlete. He’s a leader, a pioneer, and has accomplished so much in his professional and personal life. The naming of our court will allow future generations to know and understand the positive example Joe made to so many.”
