Hall of Fame Syracuse Orange Head Coach Jim Boeheim has announced that he is retiring after 47 years of coaching the program. The team is hiring former player and current assistant coach Adrian Autry as the program’s next Head Coach. Between playing for the program, being the assistant coach, and then being the Head Coach, Boeheim spent six decades with Syracuse. While it has been speculated that this was coming for a few years now, basketball lost a legend on Wednesday. Syracuse was eliminated by Wake Forest in the 2023 ACC Tournament hours before he announced the decision.

Jim Boeheim is rightfully considered one of the greatest college basketball coaches of all time and contributed plenty to the game. Between his games won and the players he helped get to the NBA, he has a long-standing impact on the game of basketball. He even got to coach his sons at Syracuse in his career. The program is left in capable hands, but next year’s zone defense won’t feel exactly the same without him on the court. We here at Def Pen Sports would like to congratulate him on his amazing career in college basketball.
