The Seattle Seahawks just plucked a big fish to plug along the defensive line. Jets star three technique Sheldon Richardson has been traded to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for Jermaine Kearse and a 2018 2nd round pick.

Shefter also added that the draft pick would come in 2018 while the teams will also swap 7th round draft selections. The deal on paper looks good for the Jets considering they were not going to extend him beyond this season. Richardson had one final year left on his rookie deal. If the Jets would not have traded him, the best they could have gotten back in return would have been a 2019 third round compensation pick. Leonard Williams and Mo Wilkerson appear to be the priorities in New York as of now making Richardson the odd man out.
Seattle boasts an already dynamic front seven. The injury to Malik McDowell, the team’s 2nd round draft pick this year, may have prompted the move. Richardson now gets to play next to Michael Bennett where his sack production could go through the roof. Expect that to be the case with Richardson playing in a two-gap 3-4 defense in New York. Seattle was reported to have been shopping Jermaine Kearse as well for quite some time as it is the most talented receiver group for the Seahawks in years.
