It was no secret that Johnson was going to become a free agent. The Rams traded for two Pro-Bowl defenders in Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib in recent weeks. Peters and Talib are set to lead what many see as the toughest secondary in the entire league going into 2018.
The Jets were in desperate need of an upgrade at the cornerback position. The Jets were unable to sign Kirk Cousins earlier today, so they moved on to try and cover other areas of need.
Johnson has played decently for the Rams. He has 18 interceptions since being drafted by the Rams in 2012. Johnson was franchised tagged the previous two seasons but did not reproduce the better numbers he had in his early years.
This is a massive payday for Johnson. He is not the greatest cornerback in the league but is still an upgrade for the Jets. The Jets had a disappointing 2017 season and 2018 is looking like more of the same. Johnson does not go to a winning program, but he is still gonna make $15 million each year.
