Over the last few years, Netflix’s rise to power has been partly fueled by the number of Marvel original series to appear on the platform. Recently, Netflix has enjoyed the popularity of shows like Luke Cage, Daredevil, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Jessica Jones and many more. However, it appears that this recent stretch of Marvel series appearing on Netflix will come to an end. At the end of 2018, Netflix announced that Marvel’s Luke Cage and Daredevil would not be renewed for new seasons despite respectable streaming numbers.
Today, Netflix announced that two more Marvel shows would be cancelled. Marvel’s The Punisher will end after two seasons and Jessica Jones will conclude after its third season premieres later this year. Lastly, the premiere of Jessica Jones‘ third season will mark the end of new Marvel original series releases on the streaming platform.
It is widely believed that Marvel will continue to produce original series when its new streaming service, Disney+, gets off the ground. In the meantime, Marvel will continue to stream previously released seasons on Netflix. A premiere date for Marvel’s Jessica Jones has yet to be set.
