Jermaine Dupri has been under fire after making sexist remarks towards women rappers. The producer appeared on an episode of People TV on Thursday, where he was asked if he had any favorite women rappers. He stated,
“For me, it’s like strippers rapping. As far as rap goes, I’m not getting who is the best rapper.”
He continued,
“I’m getting, ‘Oh, you got a story about you dancing in the club, you got a story about you dancing in the club, you got a story about you dancing in the club.’ OK, all right.”
His comments have caused rappers like Cardi B to respond. Cardi responded in a series of videos on Thursday. In one video she stated,
“First of all, I rap about my p*ssy because she my best friend, you know what I’m saying. And second of all, it … seems like that’s what people wanna hear.”
She went on in a separate video shouting out fellow rap girls in the game, including, Tierra Whack, Rapsody, Chika, and Kamaiyah.
Jermaine Dupri responded to the backlash on Friday and announced the ‘So So Def Female Cypher.’ He tweeted,
“After all the calls,DMs, angry tweets and other messages saying “I am a major gatekeeper in the hip hop world, why don’t I invest in a female who is out here hustling and making a name for herself?” I decided to create the #SoSoDefFemalecypher, details coming soon”
