Jay-Z has agreed to produce The Harder They Fall for Netflix, according to Collider. Collider is also reporting that Jonathan Majors (The Last Black Man in San Francisco) is attached to star in the film.
The Harder They Fall will be the directorial debut for Jeymes Samuel, who previously worked with Jay-Z on The Great Gatsby soundtrack. The film, also written by Samuel, tells the story of an outlaw named Nat Love. Love learns that the man who killed his parents 20 years ago will be released from prison shortly. Having been failed by the justice system, Love resolves to take matters into his own hands to claim revenge.
Majors is in the midst of a career turning point. After memorable parts in last year’s White Boy Rick and 2017’s Hostiles, Majors lit the screen up with his performance in this year’s The Last Black Man in San Francisco. And things are only getting crazier for him from here.
Along with The Harder They Fall, Majors has roles lined up with some pretty impressive filmmakers over the next year. He’s already completed filming on Spike Lee’s new Netflix film, Da 5 Bloods. He’ll also be appearing in Jordan Peele’s new HBO series, Lovecraft Country. Then, he’s set to play a lead role in Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7.
The Harder They Fall has yet to receive a release date.
