Top Dawg Entertainment has had an incredible run in 2018 and Jay Rock has been at the center of it. Jay Rock kicked of the year with his record, “King’s Dead”, which held a special place on the Black Panther soundtrack. Soon thereafter, Rock and company embarked on the TDE Championship tour. Following the tour, the California native released his first album in three years. Redemption pulled in great reviews along with commercial success. This fall, Rock has been running around the country on his Big Redemption tour alongside TDE newcomer, Reason. Most recently, Jay Rock made headlines when dropped the video for his song, “Wow Freestyle”, featuring Kendrick Lamar.
This week, Jay Rock continued on his victory lap. The T.D.E front man teamed up with Georgia gubernatorial candidate, Stacey Abrams, to encourage citizens to get out and vote. Rock remixed his hit single, “Win”, to coincide with Abrams ongoing campaign. On the remix, Jay Rock raps, “Go ‘head hit up all them polls, yeah/ Stacey, you either with her or against her, though/ Just vote for Stacey, not that other bro.” Although, it’s not a full remix, it doesn’t hurt to have the support of most successful team in Hip-Hop.
By publicly supporting Abrams, Jay Rock becomes one of many Hip-Hop acts to get involved with the upcoming midterm elections. John Legend has been a staunch advocate for Abrams throughout her campaign. Yesterday, news surfaced of Travis Scott at a rally for Beto O’Rourke. Not to mention, Playboi Carti has offered voters a chance to win free concert tickets. All of these campaigns are in an effort to get more young people of color to the polls next Tuesday, November 6th.
