McGee started the season with the Denver Nuggets before being traded to the Philadelphia 76ers at the trade deadline. He averaged 3.0 ppg, 2.1 rpg in about 10 mpg in his short 6 game stint with the 76ers.
The Boston Celtics signing McGee through next season makes sense for both sides. Boston needs rim protection and another big man since the Jared Sullinger injury, McGee just wants to be at a place where he can receive consistent playing time.
The Celtics are sitting at the 11th spot in the East, but are only three games back of the eighth and final playoff spot. Now I’m not sure if this is a result of their young core overachieving or if this is just a case of a bad team still having a shot thanks to being a member of the eastern conference.
Either way it goes if you have a legit shot at making the playoffs you have to try. The Celtics are attempting to do that with the McGee signing. Things still aren’t set and stone so McGee could possibly end up with another team.
The Miami Heat, Dallas Mavericks and and Golden State Warriors are also reported to be interested in McGee’s services
