37-year old guard Jason Terry played a surprisingly large role for the Rockets last season. He was huge for them off the bench, and he even stepped in as a starter when Patrick Beverly went down with a wrist injury. In fact, Terry started in all 17 of the Rockets’ playoff games. Not bad for a grandpa, huh?
There’s room on the roster for Terry to return as a backup guard since Pablo Prigioni and Nick Johnson were both shipped off to Denver in the Ty Lawson trade, as pointed out by ESPN’s Marc Stein.
Fact that Houston had to surrender two guards in Lawson trade, I'm told, enhances chances of Jason Terry returning to Rockets in free agency

Terry and the Rockets are talking about an extension, according to Mark Berman of Fox 26.
Free agent guard Jason Terry says he is in talks to return to the #Rockets.

Patrick Beverly is returning, and with the addition of Lawson he will likely become the team’s 6th man. However, he’s always been more of an off-the-ball player given the presence of James Harden in the backcourt. Therefore, Terry will likely be the primary ball-handler off the bench. Terry is used to handling the ball. He’s a very capable playmaker, and also a sniper from deep(39% from 3-point range last season). If Terry does return, he will add depth to Houston, which is something the desperately need. The team ranked 22nd in bench points per game last season.
