It is no secret that Jaron “Boots” Ennis is one of the fastest rising stars in all of boxing, but it is unclear when he will have an opportunity to display his talents next. At the moment, all of the belts in the welterweight division are tied up as Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. negotiate a deal for a megafight this November. As the two sides negotiate a deal, Keith Thurman, Conor Benn, Jaron “Boots” Ennis and a few other contenders plot their next moves. During a recent interview, Ennis teased a potential ring return for this fall.
“For me, I should be back in the ring by October or November,” the Philadelphia native told Tha Boxing Voice.
As for his next opponent, it remains unclear who he will fight next. With that said, Ennis has a few names in mind.
“I don’t know. Probably Keith Thurman or Stanionis,” Jaron Ennis said when asked who he’d like to fight next.
“I don’t know. I don’t really care. If it ain’t Errol Spence or Bud, It’s probably Keith Thurman or Stanionis. Anybody in the top five right there, or [anyone] with a belt. I don’t really care who it is.”
Recently, Thurman was asked about the possibility of fighting Conor Benn or any of the other young fighters in the welterweight division.
“These young people need to know that Keith Thurman is not a gatekeeper,” Thurman wrote on Instagram.
“If they try to find out, they’ll find out that the gate is welded shut.”
In contrast, Stanionis has similar promotional ties to Ennis and would likely be an easy fight to negotiate. With that said, he has already earned a mandatory shot at Errol Spence Jr.’s WBA Welterweight Championship without fighting Benn, Ennis or Ortiz Jr.
