Janelle Monae has joined the cast of an upcoming Gloria Steinem Biopic ‘The Glorias: A Life On The Road’.Gloria Marie Steinem is an American feminist, journalist, and social-political activist who became nationally recognized as a leader and a spokeswoman for the American feminist movement in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Now, with a movie being made about her, Julian Moore and Alicia Vikander will star as the journalist through various times in her life.
Janelle Monae will star alongside Moore and Vikander as Dorothy Pitman Hughes, the women’s and civil rights activist that co-founded Ms. Magazine with Steinem.
The Lion King musical Julia Taymor will direct the movie based on Steinem’s memoirs. Monae will play in her 3rd film after earning Oscar nominations for Moonlight and Hidden Figures. She’s also starring in the Steve Carrell film Welcome To Marwen which comes to theatres soon. Did I forget to mention that she’s also nominated for multiple Grammy’s for her ‘Dirty Computer.’
She’s got more on the way as well. She’s starring in a Harriet Tubman biopic ‘Harriet’ and voicing a character in Disney’s live-action ‘Lady & The Tramp’.
