One of the most intriguing teams in the upcoming season will be the Houston Rockets. While their postseason ended in disappointment, the team was able to pick itself up and have a successful offseason to gear themselves for another run.
The main addition, of course, was Chris Paul. The former Clippers’ point guard is no stranger to playoff disappointment, himself, but he and the Rockets are hoping that his new partnership with James Harden will be enough to get both parties over the hump.
Of course, the duo’s future does not come without questions. Both are ball-dominant guards who excel at different paces of the game. How they will fit alongside each other is a valid concern.
That’s why the two stars have already begun talking things over, as James Harden told Ben Golliver of the Crossover, in hopes of creating chemistry before the season even begins:
“In any relationship or partnership, you need to have communication. You’ve got to know that person. Me and Chris have communicated every single day. We’ve worked out several times already, just to build that relationship, that togetherness before training camp hits. Once it starts, we’ll be rolling already.
“[The Warriors are] really, really talented, but the chemistry that they’ve built the last few years is what makes everything mesh,” he said. “Adding Chris, it’s going to take some time, but we’re trying to get ahead of the game right now in the summer. It’s chemistry and talent (together), that’s when you’ve got something special.”
That communication will be a major key to any success the Rockets have this season. The two stars have taken ownership of the situation, even playing in the Drew League together on Sunday, in order to have a smoother transition to playing together.
