The New York Knicks have been in the news recently because of the Charles Oakley incident. They have also been in the news for Carmelo Anthony trade drama and Phil Jackson sending out tweets. With the Knicks being the Knicks, owner James Dolan made an appearance on the Michael Kay Show on Yes Network.
One question Dolan was asked was how he thought the direction of the franchise was going. His response was to talk about Phil Jackson. He, of course, backed Jackson, saying he’s let him run the franchise and he’s going to let Jackson run the team for as long as his contract is.
Dolan went on to say it doesn’t matter if he thinks Jackson is running the organization the right or wrong way, he’s going to stick with the contract and hope the Knicks start to turn it around.
Here is the video of Dolan talking about Phil Jackson. It starts at about the 15:30 minute mark.
It remains to be seen what the Knicks are going to do as the trade deadline approaches. They could keep Melo and have him disgruntled for the remainder of the season, they can trade Carmelo and try to get some veterans back and make a shot at the playoffs, or they can and gain some picks and younger guys to start a rebuild around Kristaps Porzingis.
Jackson signed a five-year deal in 2014, but he has an opt-out clause in the contract for this season. He has the option to fulfill his contract through 2019, or he can leave this summer if he wishes. The owner of 11 championship rings said he plans on seeing his contract out, but things change over the course of a contract.
