Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens point guard Jameer Nelson Jr. has announced he has entered the transfer portal. He spent two seasons with George Washington, with one of them being a medical Red Shirt season, before transferring to Delaware where he played two full seasons. Nelson is the son of former NBA point guard Jameer Nelson. The likely plan is to get to a bigger school to showcase his talent to more NBA scouts next year. Nelson is hoping to follow in his father’s footsteps and get to the NBA.

This season with the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens, Jameer Nelson Jr. averaged 20.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 2.4 steals per game. He paired those numbers with a field goal percentage of 44.5 percent and a three-point percentage of 30.7 percent. Nelson Jr. emerged as a top-scoring option this year for the team and improved on his already impressive defense. While the team did not qualify for a post-season tournament, it was not because of their point guard.

Despite the transfer portal being more active than in the past, Jameer Nelson Jr. will not have a problem drawing attention from larger programs this offseason. His level of play at Delaware alone will get him plenty of looks. With the right fit the junior point guard, who plans to graduate this summer, could find himself being selected in the 2024 NBA Draft next year.
