A viral video of New York Jets safety Jamal Adams laying out ‘Pat Patriot’, the Patriots’ mascot, was, no doubt, a hilarious visual yesterday at the 2019 Pro Bowl practice. However, it may not have been as funny to the man inside the costume.
The man in the mascot suit, according to Adams, went to the hospital following the hit, although Adams intentionally did not hit the mascot as hard as he could. Adams also revealed the NFL is not too happy with him right now.
Following from Michael Blinn of the New York Post:
“I didn’t hit him that hard, man. All jokes aside, I didn’t hit him that hard. I don’t know what’s really going on, but they did tell me he’s in the hospital. My intention was never to hurt him. It was all about just a joke, but I definitely want to check on him and make sure everything is good. At the end of the day, we were out here just having fun and it wasn’t nothing intentionally to try to hurt the guy.”
Adams’ tackle was celebrated by the Orlando fans, who had been booing the Pats’ mascot all day. ‘Pat Patriot’ eventually got up in the video and went to tackle Adams so any injuries were apparently not known to the person in the costume.
The NFL hasn’t released a statement about the hit or the man in the costume, but one would have to think Jamal Adams may be getting a call about the hit in the near future.
At the end of the day, Patriots fans get the last laugh as they will be playing in the Super Bowl on February 3, while Jets fans will be relegated to watching Adams and two other Jets (Jason Myers and Andre Roberts) in the Pro Bowl this Sunday.
