Patrick Ewing has received his first commitment after returning to Georgetown in the role of head coach. After the Basketball Hall of Famer took the job earlier this month, the former Hoyas star had some work to do. Chief among them, recruiting and rebuilding the program. His first stop was with a point guard and he looked north for some talent. Jahvon Blair, a 2017 point guard hailing from Athlete Institute in Toronto, Ontario, officially became Ewing’s first recruit last week.
“It’s a great school with an even better coaching staff,” Blair told Def Pen. “I was really interested especially since I was Patrick Ewing first recruit. They really treated me like I was apart of their team.”

Blair is just the latest Canadian talent out of the Ontario area, in particular, from Orangeville and Brampton. Current NBA players Thon Maker, Jamal Murray and Tyler Ennis were all teammates of Blair’s at one point in his high school career. The Orangeville program in Canada has become a North American high school powerhouse in a short amount of time.
The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 23.6 points and 6.4 rebounds and will fill a void for the Hoyas that was created when Tremont Waters asked for a release from his National Letter of Intent (NLI). In a rebuilding period for the Hoyas, Blair is optimistic he’ll be able to replicate what he did in high school at the collegiate level.
“I’m going to do my best to bring my high basketball IQ along with my leadership skills, getting to the rim & filling the stat sheets,” Blair said.
Blair relays his final three obviously include Georgetown, along with Georgia Tech and Washington.
