Ivan Rabb would have potentially been a top 10 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. The standout forward out of Cal had some high prospects last season even some comparing the young big man to San Antonio Spurs forward LaMarcus Aldridge. But his decision to remain one more season in the NCAA might have hurt his draft stock. But despite his fall in projections, he will still declare for the 2017 NBA Draft.
Marc J. Spears of the Undefeated on ESPN broke the news of Rabb’s decision.
Cal sophomore forward Ivan Rabb tells The Undefeated that he is entering the 2017 NBA Draft with no plans of returning to school. “Cal meant a lot to me. My two years at Cal was a huge learning experience both on and off of the court,” Rabb said.
While there is no doubt Rabb is a first round talent, the big man went from a potential top 10 pick to a possible late lottery to early 20’s pick. Still, despite his fall in the draft projections, Rabb should be a solid pick and he’s making the choice to join the NBA draft ranks.
Ivan Rabb averaged a double-double in his second stint with Cal posting 14 points per game, 10.5 rebounds per game but his field goal percentage dipped from 61.5 in his freshman year to 48.4 in 2016-17.
