Isaiah Thomas’ hip injury suffered in the postseason has become the biggest topic of conversation in recent days. Thomas’ health could come in the way of a blockbuster trade that would send the point guard to Cleveland in exchange for Kyrie Irving. As of Tuesday, the trade has not been completed with conflicting reports on whether or not the Cavs will be asking for added compensation.
But Thomas does not feel the injury is that serious. As he told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the former/current Celtics star thinks he will be back to his old self in no time:
“I am not damaged,” Thomas told ESPN on Tuesday. “I’ll be back, and I’ll be the same player.”
“There’s never been an indication that I wouldn’t be back, and there’s never been an indication that this is something messing up my career,” Thomas told ESPN. “Maybe I am not going to be back as soon this season as everyone wants me to be, but I’m going to be back, and I’m going to be the same player again. No doctor has told me anything different than that.”
It still remains to be seen whether Thomas will require surgery; that could potentially put his chances of making a return this year in danger. The Cavs have reason to be wary even if it seems like the trade will still go through.
