Isaiah Thomas’ hip injury has been shrouded in injury. We don’t really know what it is, when it occurred or how severe it really is. Thomas, along with Cavaliers GM Koby Altman, refused to address the injury during Thomas’ introductory press conference Thursday. According to Jason Lloyd of The Athletic, this is more than just a labral tear:
One source with direct knowledge of Thomas’ hip condition told The Athletic last week that he is dealing with more than just a tear. Some of those secondary issues in the hip he has played with for years now, such as a loss of cartilage and some arthritis, are complicating his healing process.
“No one has any idea how quickly this will heal or if it even will heal at all,” the source said. “It’s hard to predict.”
Regardless of which team you root for, it’s hard not to cheer for Thomas, the diminutive point guard who was selected with the very last pick in the 2011 draft. He’s overcome so many hurdles, and always has a massive chip on his shoulder.
That’s why this injury being serious would suck. To see Thomas never regain his quickness and scoring capability would be tragic. The guy averaged nearly 29 points per game last season. He’s the ultimate success story. We’re rooting for you, IT.
