After the James Harden trade, the Nets lost most of their bench production and have been forced to play their star players close to 40.0 minutes per game. Shumpert comes to relieve those minutes and strengthen the team’s bench as well as contributing with perimeter defense while he is on the court.
Shumpert has played for several teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers and Houston Rockets where he was teammates with Kyrie Irving and James Harden respectively. In 2019, he played for a short stint with the Nets and hasn’t played in the league since.
In his nine-year career in the NBA, he has averages of 7.2 points, 3.3 rebounds in 25.0 minutes per game while shooting 33.8 percent from the three-point area.
His debut in the season will have to wait at least for a week when he clears testing protocols with six consecutive days with negative tests.
