The Cleveland Cavaliers so far this season have seen almost every move they’ve made go right for them so far from the start of the season all the way up until now.
LeBron James and The Cavaliers have kept in consistent contact with Allen’s agent throughout the season, but Allen has yet to budge from making his comeback to the hardwood. Allen reportedly had concerns about Cleveland’s roster and Cavs General Manager David Griffin fine tuned the roster along with those changes came success for Cleveland.
Now the choice is in Allen’s hands, but according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst the sharpshooter will not be heading to Cleveland if he does decide to make a comeback.
“Ray Allen is not gonna sign with the Cavs. I don’t think he’s gonna play. If he decides he wants to, it won’t be with the Cavs.” – ESPN’s Brian Windhorst
Allen worked out with James in Miami earlier this season as LeBron was rehabbing nagging knee and back injuries he tried to convince Allen to join The Cavaliers. If the rumor is true that would leave teams like The Atlanta Hawks, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers, and Golden State in the mix.
If Allen is smart he stays retired. At the age of 39 two championships and The NBA’s all time leader in three pointers made what else does he have to prove? Allen would only be padding his stats at this point.
Allen has stamped his ballot into the hall of fame and I do not see him making a comeback. If James was still in Miami I think this is a different story, but I think Allen is comfortable with the warm weather of Miami and he’s perfectly fine with how his career ended to make him decide to not come out of retirement.
This will sound goofy to say, but this might workout for Cleveland. Head Coach David Blatt has a roster with J.R. Smith, Iman Shumpert, Mike Miller, James Jones, and Rookie Joe Harris all guys who can shoot the ball. If Allen was signed by Cleveland there’s only so many minutes that can go around and the team they’ve put out there on a nightly basis seems to be clicking at this point. With the addition of Kendrick Perkins last week what else could Cleveland add or possibly need?
