Although James Gunn’s “Suicide Squad” semi-reboot is building more momentum by the minute, Deadshot is set to no longer be a part of it.
Though it was previously reported that Elba would replace Will Smith as Deadshot in the new film, reports from Variety state that all parties have decided to move on from the Deadshot character, with Elba set to play an unseen character in the new “The Suicide Squad.”
As of yet, Warner Bros. has not delivered a statement regarding the creative switch.
It was reported that the executives and creatives at Warner Bros. did not want to come off as disrespecting Smith, who brought the character to the big screen for the first time, by replacing him with Elba. The decision to not introduce Idris Elba as Deadshot opens up the door for a possible return for Will Smith to return to the role.
It seems that Gunn’s Suicide Squad will only see three characters to return, which are Harley Quinn with Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang, and Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller. The film is scheduled to release on Aug. 6, 2021.
