It’s been a hard year, so we’re all looking for ways to make things feel light and fresh this holiday season. One of the best ways to do that is to look to nature for your holiday decor. Wreaths, pinecones and beautifully-arranged florals from The Bouqs are perfect ways to bring the outdoors inside and ratchet up the cheer. Here are a few of our favorite ideas for a Christmas floral combination.
Something Snowy
Even if you won’t wake up to a blanket of white on Christmas day, you can fake it with a snow-inspired floral centerpiece. The obvious choice here is white (or cream-colored) roses. To keep it from looking too bridal-white, flank your blooms with hypericum berries (also known as St. John’s Wort) for a dazzling flash of red and green.
Rudolph Approved
Fans of Rudolph and his rosey nose will like an arrangement of all red blooms and nothing else. When you’re going for the monochrome look, it’s important to use buds in different textures to keep things interesting. This winter, we recommend a mix of carnations, red pincushion flowers (more formally known as scabiosa) and a few stems of our good friends, the hypericum berries. If you’re willing to let a little green in, some leafy accents will really make this arrangement pop.
Pint-Sized Pine
Even if you can’t fit a full-sized Christmas tree in your home, or you just don’t feel like hauling one in this year, you can still create a floral arrangement that’s reminiscent of a festive pine tree. Start with pine leaves and pine cones (it’s all about the theme!) then add whatever florals you think go best. We recommend something crimson, like spray roses, Peruvian lilies or protea.
Red and Green
For another, ultra-simple take on a red and green floral combination, you need just two things: some gorgeous maroon tulips and some evergreen leaves to compliment them. This streamlined duo looks great in a tall white vase for a clean and modern (but still festive!) look.
New and Non-Traditional
Who says you have to follow tradition when it comes to your Christmas florals? Consider going for something that will surprise and delight instead, like sunflowers! You can still make them feel ever-so-slightly Christmas-inspired with a complement of hypericum berries, pine leaves and a festive vase.
Primarily Poinsettias
The poinsettia is a classic Christmas floral for a reason. Its celebratory start-point shape, saturated green and red hues and cheery golden centers emanate “merry and bright”. The best part is there’s no combination needed here; this floral is good all on its own. (Though we suggest placing it in close proximity to the stockings for extra cheer.)
Strings of lights, giant plastic Santas and a bevy of ornaments are all fun, but you really don’t need all that to make your home feel festive this Christmas. Just reach for a vase (or two or three) of festival floral combinations and you’ll be feeling the holiday cheer in no time at all.
