When Ice Spice delivered her breakout single, “Munch,” in 2022, very few knew where it would take her career. Two years and more than 100 million Spotify streams later, the “Munch” rapper has shared the stage with Taylor Swift, led a Super Bowl ad campaign for Starry and collaborated with everyone from Nicki Minaj to Central Cee. Along the way, many have wondered if her momentum would cease. Time after time, she managed to record a hit just at the right time. From “Deli” to the “Fisherrr” remix with Cash Cobain, the Bronx native has become one of the biggest hitmakers in music for the better part of the last few years. Now, she’s ready to prove that she can not only make hit singles, but she can also release number one albums. This Friday, Ice Spice achieves a major milestone in her career as she releases her drops her debut album, Y2K.
Y2K is a succinct, 10-track project clocking in at under 30 minutes. Along the way, she offers some of the singles that fans have become familiar with like “Think U The S—t” and “Phat Butt.” Not to mention, she also taps some first-time collaborators — Travis Scott and Central Cee — for the album. All of these elements form a project that she describes as “chaotic, in a good way.”
“I was really born into chaos, and I feel like the album sounds very chaotic, in a good way,” she told Rolling Stone.
Y2K paves the way for Ice Spice’s first tour. With support from her longtime producer, Riot, and recent collaborator, Cash Cobain, the Y2K World Tour is set to begin its North American leg on July 30 in Washington, D.C. Until then, check out the album below.
