On Thursday, December 7, a federal grand jury returned a nine-count indictment charging Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, with three felony tax offenses and six misdemeanor tax offenses.
“According to the indictment, Hunter Biden engaged in a four-year scheme in which he chose not to pay at least $1.4 million in self-assessed federal taxes he owed for tax years 2016 through 2019 and to evade the assessment of taxes for tax year 2018 when he filed false returns,” a statement provided by the office of special counsel David C. Weiss reads.
The charges levied against Biden add to the crimes he was charged with earlier this year. In September, Hunter Biden was hit three charges, including making false statements on a federal firearms form and possession of a firearm as a prohibited person. If convicted of the three firearms charges, Hunter Biden could face up to 25 years in prison and $750,000 in fines.
“[If his] last name was anything other than Biden, the charges in Delaware, and now California, would not have been brought,” attorney Abbe Lowell stated.
“I wrote U.S. Attorney Weiss days ago seeking a customary meeting to discuss this investigation. The response was media leaks today that these charges were being filed.”
