How to Take Care of Yourself as a Bachelor

Depending on who you ask, being a bachelor can be great and it can be… not so great. If you ask a hardworking professional with plenty of goals, relationship prospects, and friends — you’ll hear plenty of great things! Conversely, if you ask the guy who does the minimum to get by, sits in his pajamas all day playing video games, and hasn’t been on a date in months, you won’t hear as many glowing reviews.

Wherever you fall on the bachelor spectrum, you can always be doing more! We’re going to help you learn how to better take care of yourself as a single man!

Connect with good people

Far too many singles stay inside all the time, only playing Xbox and microwaving pizza rolls. That might be nice and even necessary every once in a while — for everyone! — but it shouldn’t be how you spend most of your time. Instead, take a shower, dress nice, and go out and meet people! Surrounding yourself with nice, encouraging, and fun people will give you a boost of encouragement and significantly better your life!

Work on being more responsible

It’s not going to happen overnight, and that’s okay. But you need to at least start taking your life seriously. Again, and we can’t stress this enough, step away from the video games! Instead, sit down at your kitchen table (oh yeah, buy a kitchen table) and start organizing all your important documents. Make sure you’re insurance information is up-to-date (85% of homeowners have some form of home insurance), start carefully budgeting all your purchases, organize all your bills, and develop a plan to get out of debt!

Get healthy… now!

In your early twenties, you can get away with the endless nights of pizza eating and beer drinking. Now? Not so much. You’re getting older. That’s not a bad thing but it will be if you don’t start taking better care of yourself. You should be getting at least seven to eight hours of sleep each night, exercising regularly, and being more conscious about what you’re eating and drinking. Simply drinking a gallon of coffee every day isn’t being more responsible, either. Instead, consider starting your morning off with a cup of green tea. Green tea contains a fairly small amount of caffeine at about 20 to 45 milligrams for an 8-ounce cup and is a much healthier option!

Take your appearance seriously

Stop what you’re doing and look at yourself in the mirror right now. Old sweatpants, ripped socks, and a beer t-shirt, right? Get rid of them. You’re never going to start feeling better about yourself if you don’t start looking better. You need to buy some nicer clothes and start taking your hygiene seriously. By the age of 50, approximately 85% of men have significantly thinning hair. You can fight this by replacing all that high school shampoo you’re still using with quality products.

It’s okay to not feel so responsible every second of every day — but you need to start doing a little bit more to improve life as a bachelor. If you start taking yourself more seriously, keep yourself and your apartment/home looking clean, and stop playing video games 100% of your time, you’ll have an amazing future lined up for you!
