The experience of driving your car can get very unpleasant very quickly if the AC stops working. And unfortunately, cars have a lot of features that let heat in. For example, the car’s windshield is so large that it lets in a lot of solar energy. The car itself so heats up as you drive. If your car’s AC stops working, the solution may be as simple as getting an ac charging hose and refilling your refrigerant. If it’s due to a more technical problem, you may need to visit the mechanic. While you’re getting your AC fixed, you will need to keep your car cool. In this post, we’ll discuss 4 simple ways to keep your car cool, even without air conditioning.
Use a windshield sunshade
The windshields let in a significant amount of heat from the sun. Keeping that heat out can help keep your car’s air very cool. It’s the same thing with the window blinds/shades that you use at home. Car sunshades are made of different materials, from fabric to reflective materials. The reflective shades are the best because they don’t just keep the sun out; they also reflect it. But, any kind of sunshade you choose will suffice.
Park facing the sun
This tip only applies if you have sunshades on your windscreens. Facing the sun means that your sunshades will be able to reflect the sun’s rays away from the front seat. Since that’s where you’ll be sitting, you want to keep it as cool as possible. Also, since the sunshades will bear the full brunt of the sun, other parts of the car will be kept cool as well. If you don’t have sunshades in your car, you should park facing away from the sun, so that the front seat will stay as cool as possible.
Have some water and paper towels handy
Your car’s going to get hot, no matter what you do. The goal here is to keep the heating to a minimum. Using water to cool your car is an old-fashioned, but effective technique. Before getting started, ensure that you have cool water with you (warm water will still work, but not as effectively). Dowse the rag or paper towel in some water and run it over hard surfaces in the car, like the steering wheel for example. The water will take some heat with it as it evaporates into the air.
Crack open the windows
It’s only okay to leave the windows all the way up when you have air conditioning. You can get the car cool in a matter of minutes, so leaving the window open is unnecessary. Otherwise, leaving the windows open a little bit can help the heat escape as it builds up in the car. You should leave both windows open, either in the front or in the back for cross ventilation. Also, they don’t need to be all the way down; just a little will do. You certainly don’t want to leave any openings for thieves.
