The Charlotte Hornets have been one of the busier teams in free agency. Hours after the free agency period began, they agreed to terms on a new near-max deal with Nicolas Batum. Since then, they have lost Jeremy Lin to the Nets and Al Jefferson to the Pacers.
Losing some of their players was expected, of course, considering the large number of free agents that they had. Now with cap space opened up by Lin and Jefferson leaving, the Hornets have more room to make agreements.
The first one that the team is focusing on is reportedly Marvin Williams. ESPN’s Marc Stein first reported that the team is “actively” working to get an agreement with the power forward. The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski has confirmed that report, saying the two sides are “fully engaged” in negotiations.
Williams was a huge key to the success the Hornets had last year. The power forward’s shooting and defense were all crucial additions to the roster. Marvin finished the season averaging 14.6 points and 8 rebounds per game while shooting 40% from behind the arc.
Marvin Williams was clearly a big key to the Hornets’ playoff season last year. Re-signing him seems like a certainty and an easy decision for Charlotte.
