Before the season started, Chicago Bulls’ forward Nikola Mirotic was looked at as a potential starter or 6th man entering the season. The stretch big can score at will and was coming off a season where he scored 11.8 PPG and shot 39 percent from three.
However, the Bulls have struggled this year and their rotations have been fluctuating all season. Take Rajon Rondo, for example, the veteran went from starting one week to out of the rotation the next week. Unfortunately, Mirotic is no exception to this and has found himself removed from the Bulls’ rotation.
Mirotic has appeared in 52 games this season, but it appears head coach Fred Hoiberg is going in a different direction for the time being.
Following from Nick Friedell of ESPN.
“He told me that I’m out of the rotation,” said Mirotic, who hasn’t played in two games and was inactive for Sunday’s matchup with the Celtics. “That I need to stay ready, but he didn’t give me any expectation that I would [or] when I can play. Just ‘stay ready.’
As for when Mirotic can expect to see his name back in the rotation is unclear, but in the meantime, Mirotic is trying to stay positive and wait till he hears his name called again.
“It’s a very good question,” Mirotic said. “It is hard. It is very hard. There’s not too many things I can do right now. It looks like it’s not up to me. It’s up to Coach. I’ve always been a good teammate, always [been] professional, so I’m going to stay in that way. Do my work and wait.”
