‘IT’ has been a box office phenomenon since it hit theatres about two weeks ago. Though, the scale of that phenomenon hasn’t been truly recognized until this moment. After 14 days in release, ‘IT’ has officially become the highest grossing ‘R Rated’ horror film of all time. The film has managed to surpass, ‘The Exorcist’, ‘Paranormal Activity‘ and ‘Get Out‘ on its way to the top. The film was slated perfectly as an end of summer cap, after three consecutive weeks of lackluster releases. ‘IT’ faces its first real competition this weekend, with the release of the anticipated sequel ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle‘ but the negative buzz on the film could hurt its chances of taking down King Pennywise. Competiton or not, ‘IT’ looks like it has its eyes on the bigger prize, of becoming the biggest horror film of all time by taking down ‘The Sixth Sense’. ‘IT’ is currently a little over $60 million shy of ‘The Sixth Sense’s $293 million gross, but with another solid weekend and steady business during the week, ‘IT’ looks poised to become the biggest horror film of all time.
