Chris Bosh’s saga in Miami is not yet over. The Heat big man recently failed a physical and is still unable to play after complications with a blood clot.
Bosh has not taken kindly to the situation, with complaints of a lack of communication from management. The big man has effectively claimed that his career in Miami is over.
Despite not receiving clearance, Bosh has maintained that he will play basketball, again. It’s obviously a somewhat dangerous decision as his health complications could become more serious if not treated.
Regardless, it’s a risk Bosh is seemingly willing to take. There’s just one problem: he is under contract with the Heat and they will make it difficult for Bosh to sign a favorable deal.
Following from ESPN’s Zach Lowe:
The most likely course of action as of now in this murky, sad situation, per sources all around it: The Heat wait until after March 1 to waive Bosh so that he is not eligible to appear in the postseason for any team that signs him. At that point, Bosh’s mammoth salary would vanish from Miami’s cap sheet, freeing Riley to plop his rings in front of one or two stars this summer.
This is a bit of a shady tactic from Pat Riley and the Heat. It’s obviously a legal course of action, but limiting the options of a player who gave so much to the franchise is not the greatest look. Free agents look at these type of things, and I’m sure they’re paying close attention to the Chris Bosh situation.
