The Miami Heat have spent a lot of money on re-signing their own players this offseason. Signing Dion Waiters, James Johnson, and Kelly Olynyk to around $160 million. Moves that seem like they may not work out in the long term. According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, however, the Heat are likely to dish out yet another contract for Josh Richardson.
Guard Josh Richardson became eligible for a contract extension on Thursday, and the Heat privately has expressed interest in offering him one, according to a league source.
The Heat, as of Thursday afternoon, had not made an offer, but one is expected in the coming weeks, the league source said.
Josh Richardson was a big factor in the Heat’s stirring come back that nearly netted them a playoff birth but is he good enough to receive another contract? As stated before, the heat already have a ton of money invested into average talent. It seems strange they would do so again with Richardson but it all depends on the price. If Richardson gets cashed out, expect Miami resident to grow nervous about the future of their team.
