In a rare move, HBO has elected to cancel Run after just one season at the premium cable network.
“After exploring potential ways of continuing Ruby and Billy’s journey, together with showrunner Vicky Jones, we have come to the decision that we will not be moving forward with a second season of Run,” HBO wrote in a statement.
Run kicked off this Spring with Merrit Wever and Domhnall Gleeson leading the cast. The two play childhood friends who reunite after years a part. Despite good reviews from critics, the show met an early demise.
Reports from multiple outlets indicate that the network was interest in bringing the show back for a second season. However, the show’s creators, Vicky Jones and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and network executives could not come to an agreement.
On a brighter note, HBO has renewed a number of other series recently. Avenue, A Black Lady Sketch Show, Betty and Insecure have all been renewed for new seasons.
