According to The Vertical’s Shams Charania, the Atlanta Hawks have signed point guard Quinn Cook to a partially guaranteed two-year deal. Cook appeared in 14 games last season with the Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans, averaging 5.6 points per game. He was released July 25th after playing in Las Vegas with the Pelicans Summer League team.

Cook, the former Duke Blue Devils product, first signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2015. He spent time with their G-League team, the Canton Charge before signing with Dallas on a ten-day contract. The Hawks over the past two years have gutted their team, trading away Jeff Teague, Dwight Howard, and Paul Millsap and let Al Horford walk away in free agency. The young Hawks get a even younger with the signing of Cook, who will likely get much more of an opportunity to contribute. He showed flashes last season of being a solid player, scoring 22 points off the bench against the Golden State Warriors.
Quinn Cook put together a nice Summer League with New Orleans and looked like he would have an outside chance of staying with the team. In an interview with The Advocate, he voiced that Pelicans’ coach Alvin Gentry had a strong influence on his game. “It’s the biggest help, being able to talk to coach Gentry this whole time,” Cook said. “He calls me over five times per quarter, and I ask him questions and he asks me questions and he has been so helpful to me since I’ve been in New Orleans. I just see myself getting better every day and ready to compete next season.” Hopefully that can translate to his play with the Atlanta Hawks as they begin the painful process of rebuilding.
