HBO Max has renewed Harley Quinn for a fourth season. The streaming giant also revealed that Sarah Peters would be upgraded from writer to executive producer and showrunner.
“We are ecstatic that HBO Max wants the story of Harley and Ivy to continue,” Harley Quinn creators Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker stated.
“And we are equally thrilled that this next season will be in great hands with Sarah Peters as our showrunner and Ceci Aranovich overseeing animation production, as they have both greatly influenced the show with their brilliance since the beginning.”
HBO Max’s decision to renew Harley Quinn for another season comes as the show nears its season three finale on September 15, 2022. It is one of the few projects at HBO Max to receive a nod of confidence as of late. Recently, the streaming service has axed a number of superhero series, including Aquaman: King of Atlantis and Caped Crusader. Not to mention, the streaming service infamously made the decision not to release Batgirl after completing the film.
Beyond the realm of superhero films and series, HBO Max has made significant changes this month. Approximately 70 staffers or 14% of HBO Max’s staff has been laid off and more than a dozen shows have been cut from their schedule.
“As we work toward bringing our content catalogs together under one platform, we will be making changes to the content offering available on both HBO Max and discovery+,” a statement from the streaming service reads.
“That will include the removal of some content from both platforms.”
Despite all of that has happened, it appears that Harley Quinn will live on to see another day. Check out the trailer for the show’s third season below.
