Gucci has its own way in mind of shaking up the fashion world. Starting this Fall 2017, both its women’s and men’s collections will be sent down the runway together. This comes as a twist to the state that the fashion industry is in today. To go along with the change, the fashion house says that it will not be embracing the new “see now, buy now” strategy that seems to be slowly taking over.
Right now, the fashion industry is up in the air with the high demand for a direct-to-consumer approach. A lot of brands are taking this on, flipping the fashion calendar with a current season’s wares available right after it’s seen on the runway. But, Gucci isn’t with it. Instead, Alessandro Michele, creative director, is breaking tradition and simplifying the system for himself by integrating menswear and womenswear.

Though it will be something different, the strategy seems to be the most intrinsic for Michele. During the New York Times International Luxury Conference in Versailles, where the news was announced, he expressed vision for Gucci’s new stake in the business.
“It seems only natural to me to present my men’s and women’s collections together. It’s the way I see the world today. It will not necessarily be an easy path and will certainly present some challenges, but I believe it will give me the chance to move toward a different kind of approach to my storytelling.”
There’s no word on whether Gucci’s new system will go into effect during men’s fashion week or women’s. I guess we’ll be finding out in the months to come.
