San Antonio Spurs wingman Kyle Anderson was not atop many free agency boards coming into the summer of 2018 but the versatile, plotting forward has garnered a rather large offer from a team looking to make a push back into the NBA playoffs.
Anderson has agreed to sign an offer sheet with the Memphis Grizzlies for four-years worth an estimated $37.2 million offer sheet.
Following comes from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Restricted free-agent forward Kyle Anderson has signed a four-year, $37.2 million offer sheet with the Memphis Grizzlies, league sources told ESPN.
The San Antonio Spurs have 48 hours to match the offer, which includes a 15 percent trade kicker, league sources said. The Grizzlies used their full midlevel exception on the offer.
With Tony Parker moving on from the Spurs and Kawhi Leonard all but gone, it’s quite unclear as to which direction the franchise is going. Rumors run rampant about Gregg Popovich retiring after the 2020 Olympics and that could mean the team is looking to make one last big push and send Popovich out on a high note. Whether or not Anderson is part of those plans is unclear at this moment but he has seen success under the Spurs umbrella through his first four years in the league.
Anderson averaged 7.9 points and 5.4 rebounds in 26.7 minutes per game for the Spurs last season and could slot in as the Spurs starting small forward if Leonard is moved or doesn’t start next season for some reason.
UPDATE: Spurs are reportedly unlikely to match the Grizzlies offer
