Shaka Smart has secured his first 2020 recruit in five-star, top-ten recruit Greg Brown. Brown was the final top-ten recruit to commit in the class of 2020. Texas up to this point had yet to secure a 2020 commitment with Shaka Smart’s return for next year up in the air. Texas finished the season strong before the season was ultimately shut down for COVID-19 leading the school to bring back Smart for another season.
Brown is Smart’s first five-star recruit since 2017 when Mo Bamba came to play for the school. Smart has been on the seat for the last two seasons really and barely escaped it this year. The addition of Brown should firmly place Texas as a top 15-20 team at worst entering next season. If Smart disappoints once again it will assuredly be his last in Austin.

Brown is extremely athletic and at his best in the open court and transition. His ability to finish around the rim is a plus and he is still developing his jump shot. His athletic ability is really the best facet of his game right now. He’s still developing his handle but has an ability to get to the rim on straight-line drives. Seeing how Smart uses him will be interesting and will go a long way towards how well his freshman season goes. His ability to block shots should be a nice bonus while the rest of his game fills out next year in Austin.
