Wright State Raiders junior forward Grant Basile has announced his transfer to the Virginia Tech Hokies. He has two years of college eligibility left and likely decided to make the jump to a bigger program to improve his stock as a professional basketball prospect. The Virginia Tech Hokies lost some talent this offseason and replace it with one of the best post players at the mid-major level. After a down season, the ACC will look to bounce back and compete at a top-level this upcoming season.

In his junior season with the Wright State Raiders, Grant Basile averaged 18.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.6 blocks per game. His numbers led the team in rebounds per game and blocks per game while his points per game finished second on the team. He paired those numbers with a field goal percentage of 49.8 percent and a three-point percentage of 28.3 percent. Basile was a vital member of the Wright State team this year and should provide an immediate impact on the Virginia Tech Hokies next season as a senior.

The one-time NCAA transfer rule has made the transfer portal far more active and now allows players like Grant Basile to play on bigger programs if they prove they can. Now his NIL opportunities will increase and he can improve his professional basketball stock. He will be able to spend two years with the program and he may choose to do so, but he will likely weigh his professional options after next year’s season. The Hokies will want to return to the NCAA Tournament next year.
