It appears that Girls Trip will return for a sequel. At Sundance Film Festival, Girls Trip co-screenwriter Tracy Oliver said she had a “definitive” update regarding the sequel.
“It’s officially happening. I can say that,” Oliver said.
“No one else knows this and Will Packer might kill me, but we’re looking to set it in Ghana.”
Additional reports indicate that Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith and Tiffany Haddish will return for the film. However, there is no update regarding who will direct the film or what direction the project will take.
The first film debuted in theaters on July 21, 2017. Led by Malcolm D. Lee, the all-star cast turned a $19 million budget into $141 million at the box office. The film was recognized at the MTV Movie & TV Awards, NAACP Image Awards and the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards.
While details regarding the sequel are worked out, Tracy Oliver will move forward with the second season Harlem, starring Megan Good, on Prime Video.
