Newly hired Head Coach Jason Kidd clearly has a vision for his Milwaukee Bucks roster. One shocking plan we’ve heard of is Giannis Antetokounmpo possibly taking over at point guard, something Jason Kidd would know a thing or two about playing himself. Kidd obviously sees a mismatch for any Point Guard that would be forced to guard Antetokounmpo at the point considering he’s now 6’11 after growing 2 inches over the summer, but he also sees Giannis and how comfortable he is handling the ball. Giannis averaged 6 PPG and 4 AST last season, but he showed some flashes throughout the season.
Antetokounmpo at the point will certainly cause mismatches especially on the defensive side of the ball, but will only make The Bucks line up gigantic.
Antetokounmpo- 6’11
Brandon Knight- 6’3
Jabari Parker- 6’8
Ersan Ilyasova 6’10/John Henson 6’11
Larry Sanders- 6’11
Now is this 110% guaranteed to work? No, but one thing I do like especially out of a Head Coach is to think outside the box and this certainly is. Defensively they have potential to be entertaining, but they’ll need some serious help scoring the basketball. If Jason Kidd can help develop Antetokounmpo into a Point Guard imagine how scary that would be. Giannis has played Point Guard but it was overseas.
I did it like two years ago in Europe, but last year I didn’t do it at all,” Antetokounmpo said of his rookie season in Milwaukee.
“As time goes on, I feel more comfortable.”
Jason Kidd’s favorite thing about Antetokounmpo is his competitive nature and he can play both sides of the ball well. Who knows Jason Kidd may be just the guy to get Antetokounmpo’s career jump started earlier than everyone expected.
Here’s some highlights from the 2014 season of The Greek Freak and let us know if you think Giannis can make the switch from Small Forward to Point Guard.
