WBA “Regular” Lightweight Champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis has found himself in legal trouble. On December 27, 2022, Davis was arrested in Parkland, Florida and met with the following offenses: domestic violence battery causing bodily harm. The Baltimore native was held in custody overnight until he appeared at a court hearing at 8 a.m. on December 28, 2022. At the hearing, bail was set at $1,000 and he bonded out shortly thereafter.
Hours after Davis was arrested, multiple media outlets obtained an incident report from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. According to the report, Davis has been accused of hitting a woman with a “closed hand” slap. The woman reportedly sustained an abrasion on the inside of her mouth due to the altercation. More recently, alleged audio of the 911 call placed following the incident has surfaced.
After 1 p.m. on Tuesday, a woman placed a call to the local authorities. As the emergency operator attempted to gain details regarding the matter, the woman can be heard pleading for help. At one point, she can be heard saying, “He’s going to kill me.”
“I need help, please,” the woman told the emergency operator.
“I’m trying to go home. I have my baby in the car, and he attacked me in front of the kid. And, now he’s messing up my tires!”
After making initial contact with the operator, the call disconnected. In response, the woman called again and asked for help repeatedly.
“I need to go home, I’m in danger right now,” she said.
Davis was ultimately arrested just before 3 p.m. EST, per TMZ. At this time, Davis is expected to fight Héctor Garcia on January 7, 2023 in Washington, D.C. However, Davis, Showtime and Premier Boxing Champions have not made a statement regarding the matter.
