Remember that guy who busted your bracket when Georgia State upset Baylor in the round of 64? Lucky for you, he won’t be around next year. RJ Hunter has chosen to forgo his final year of eligibility to pursue his dreams as an NBA player.
This season while playing under his father Ron, Hunter averaged 19.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 2.1 steals per game in 37 minutes of play. After leading the Panthers to a Sun Belt Conference championship and an upset of 3rd seeded Baylor, Hunter and his Panthers eventually lost to Xavier in the round of 32.
Coming out of high school, Hunter had 9 offers, but eventually decided to go to Georgia State so he could play for his father. He turned down Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Oregon State, Vanderbilt, Miami, Iowa, Cincinnati, and IUPUI so he could be coached by Ron Hunter.
Hunter has potential to be a lottery pick, and will certainly be drafted in the first round. A team looking to draft a guy who has a load of upside and talent is probably going to get Hunter at a spot lower than where he really should be going. Any NBA GM needs to consider drafting this guy who has the character, and skills needed to become an NBA superstar.
