Genius is preparing to bring back its annual BBQ and concert. Celebrating 50 years of Hip-Hop, the 2023 Genius IQ/BBQ is set to take place on August 19 in Queens, New York. From noon until 10 p.m. EST, the end-of-summer celebration is set to feature “live performances from some of the hottest names in hip-hop, as well as DJ sets to keep the party going in between.” Not to mention, Paramount and Showtime’s The Chi will curate the “Rap Cafeteria” experience while Infiniti presents an art installation featuring the new QX60. Best of all, the event is entirely free for those 21 and older.
It may be the first time in a few years that Genius has hosted its end-of-summer BBQ, but it is far from a comeback. Throughout the 2010s, the annual BBQ brought top-tier acts like Doja Cat, 2 Chainz and 21 Savage out for a free concert in the heart of the city. Also, the event often features emerging acts like Jack Harlow and Tierra Whack back in 2018.
“When artists come to Genius they’re entering a deeper dialogue about music with their most passionate fans. Genius IQ/BBQ is designed to bring that special energy and dynamic to life,” former Genius Chief Content Officer Brendan Frederick said.
The full lineup will be revealed in the coming weeks, but attendees can begin reserving their spots on July 6 via Dice.
