This week finally saw Dany go full ‘Mad Queen’ as she attacked King’s Landing, basically burning the entire city to the ground. Cersei and Jaime reunited just in time to die and we finally got the Clegane showdown we’ve been waiting 10 years for.
If you missed last week or just need a refresher check out that episode’s breakdown here.
We’re sure you’re just as excited as we are to have Thrones back in our lives, even if it is just for one more week. Def Pen’s gonna make the most out of this last week though so be sure to check after next week’s finale to catch our breakdown of what happened.
Immediate Reactions
Es:
As an immediate reaction, that was some of the best action I’ve ever seen. It was brutal and real. Writing and plot holes aside, this episode was a visual masterpiece.
Grant:
Well. That was rough. This episode was one of the most visually striking of the entire series but the writing continues to fall apart this season as logic has all but been thrown out the window. Hopefully, we’ll still get something close to a satisfying ending next week but, we probably won’t.
This Week’s Winner
Es:
Did anyone really win? It’s just a shock to me that everything throughout these 8 seasons has come down to a twist for Daenerys. For 8 seasons we believed she was the one, now our whole belief system is thrown out of proportion.
Grant:
I mean, did anyone really win this week? Maybe Sansa since she didn’t have to experience the carnage at King’s Landing and was proven right about Dany. And, technically Dany is probably the true winner since she finally got everything she’s always wanted but she also lost her mind, so.
This Week’s Loser
The world. The world lost this episode. It feels like this is a battle thats written into the history books, not for being good. But for being absolutely gruesome.
Es:
Grant:
Everyone? Like even the viewers? Alright, since I can’t say it was the viewers I’ll just go with everyone in King’s Landing during Dany’s assault.
Best Moment
Es:
Mountain vs. The Hound was epic. The Mountain would just not die. An epic battle overall and I can’t lie I was pretty happy with Cersei’s death. She died because of her own arrogance. A suited death.
Grant:
Best moment for me this week is definitely when Sandor finally gets through to Arya, winning the title of ‘Best Father in the Series’ before giving his life to finally kill his brother.
Worst Moment
Es:
I really didn’t like seeing all those people burn alive. That’s gotta be up there for worst ways to die and honestly, as visually shocking that is.
Grant:
For me, the worst moment in this episode has to be the deaths of Jaime and Cersei. Jaime’s arc was abandoned last week for some unknown reason and YEARS of development to make Cersei the show’s main villain were thrown out the window when it turned out falling debris was her greatest weakness all along. Who knew?
After What Happened Tonight, Who’s Most Likely to Sit On The Iron Throne?
Es:
Jonathan Snow. There’s no other rightful king. They’ve set the show up to finish this way and that is how it will end. I guess that’s why it’s become a little predictable at this point.
Grant:
I can confidently say it’s not Dany. Yes, she burned down the entire city of King’s Landing to win the Throne but I have no doubt that she’ll die next week in one way or another.
Future Predictions
Es:
Dany is done. At the hands of Arya as well, and it will be all the Starks that band together to take her down. The North truly remembers.
Grant:
Dany is going to die. There’s no way Jon and/or Arya and/or Tyrion let her live after what she did but there’s a good chance her killer won’t make it either if Drogon’s around when it happens.
