After years as a big-screen star in franchises such as Wonder Woman and The Fast and the Furious, Gal Gadot is set to star in her first small-screen role. According to TVLine, Showtime confirmed on Friday that Gadot will portray the hugely influential actor and inventor Hedy Lamarr in an upcoming biographical miniseries. Gadot’s involvement in the series was rumored about a year ago but nothing was official until now.
Showtime’s Co-President of Entertainment Jana Winograde released a statement regarding the new series and casting: “The life of Hedy Lamarr was a truly fascinating one. She stood at the forefront of many issues that challenge women and our society today. In Gal Gadot, we have found the transcendent actress to portray the deeply complex Lamarr. And with the award-winning talents of Sarah Treem and Warren Littlefield, this is going to be a special series.”
Lamarr is a celebrated Austrian actress who starred in such films as Algiers, Boom Town, Come Live with Me, and Comrade X. However, Lamarr’s greatest achievement came during World War II. The actress turned inventor helped create a radio system for the Allies that is still utilized today in Bluetooth and WiFi.
The untitled series has yet to receive a release window.
