It looks like Future’s risky move payed off as her effectively capitalized off his current hype with the surprise announcement and release of DS2. Selling 121,000 copies within the first week, Future’s final tally on the Billboard 200 comes in with a total of 147,000 SPS, which includes streaming. This marks not only Future’s first number 1 album but it’s also his highest opening week as he more than doubled the opening weeks of Pluto and Honest. Without formal and/or traditional promotion for the album during it’s debut week, except a stream of free shows, this is surely an accomplishment for the rapper and just goes to hold true that less is more. For now, we’ll have to sit back and see will Future’s massive hype be a factor in DS2‘s potential longevity.
