WarnerMedia is really putting its weight behind HBO Max ahead of the Streaming Wars. According to a Reuters interview with AT&T COO John Stankey, the new streaming service will be available to all AT&T customers that are also HBO subscribers absolutely free.
The promo deal reportedly includes both DirecTV and AT&T TV Now customers who are subscribed to HBO. Stankey also hinted that a free HBO Max subscription could be added into future AT&T wireless plans. The service’s competition all have similar deals in place to entice new customers to jump on board early. Verizon Wireless customers will get Disney+ free for a year. Anyone who purchases a new Apple device will get Apple TV+ free for a year. And, T-Mobile already offers a free Netflix subscription to unlimited-wireless customers with two or more lines.
HBO Max may be the only upcoming service that doesn’t need a promo deal to entice customers though. All episodes of The Office, Friends, and The Big Bang Theory will be exclusive to the platform within a year of release. There’s also more than a few extremely intriguing originals in development including a series from Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyong’o as well as one from Ava DuVernay. Not to mention the fact that it’ll come loaded full of content from HBO, Warner Bros., New Line, DC Entertainment, CNN, TNT, TBS, truTV, The CW, TCM, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and more.
HBO Max is set to launch in the spring of next year. More details about the streaming service are set to be unveiled at a media event on Tuesday, October 29th.
